Whoa…what is this article about Hot Girls doing in a Christian circle?

Don’t worry, we are not talking about hot physically. But hot for God.

I am sure both guys and girls have read a few articles written on this topic. I have read some of them as well. Very few are good and ‘clean’ (does not involve great sex as the criteria). However, some of them probably do not give you the motivation to keep on going when the going gets tough.

At the start of a relationship, for example, a woman probably shows to be a ‘good listener’, yet, when she starts to see the flaws in the man, can she still show the same attitude? She probably ‘laughs at his jokes’…but how long can a girl keep laughing at jokes? Or how creative can guys be to make new jokes all the time? What if he is not funny anymore? When you are having a serious talk, can both of you see eye to eye? She is probably not possessive now and lets the guy hang out with his mates. But what is going to happen when children are born and she is exhausted and needs help? Will the guy can still count on her ‘letting him hang out with the boys’?

The reality is, a girl may seem like meeting all the right ‘criteria’ as listed in many articles, but if her reason is only to win a guy, then she can easily change after the wedding day. On the other hand, when a woman knows that doing all the right thing is out of her worship to God, not men, then she will strive to keep doing the right thing even when situation does not support her.

Some articles were written with biblical perspective and some verses to give the reason for keep doing all the good things listed whether single or married. If you consider yourself a Christian, you need to take God’s Word seriously and draw wisdom from it. The list given here is by no means exhaustive. But hopefully it whets your appetite to find out more from God’s Word how a woman HOT for God is like.

Girls, this can serve as a guideline to grow. This list is not for the faint-hearted, and it is not for attracting guys. It is to please the God who has redeemed you, sisters! (though sometimes when you are hot for God, chances are you may attract guys who are also hot for God)

Guys, if you really love God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind, you would probably have this sort of list already. But you also need to do the hard work: grow to be a godly man yourself because wise and godly women will be attracted to wise and godly men.

OK, so here are some of the things I draw out from the Bible:

1. Fear God

Proverbs 31:30
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised

A woman who fears God conducts her life to please the One who has redeemed her by serving Him and serving other people. So, what do you see in her daily life? Does she put God first? Or does she make God (and everybody else) her slave? Does she care about God’s glory or her own glory? Does she spend most of her time and money for herself or for Kingdom’s sake?

2. Beautiful from the inside out

1 Peter 3:3-4
Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious

Does she spend her mornings waiting upon the Lord? Or is she mostly in front of the mirror? Or mostly sleeping in? Is she hungry and thirst for God’s righteousness? Or is she loud, defiant and not teachable?
Don’t get me wrong. It’s definitely ok to want to look beautiful. In fact, she should care for her body, including her beauty. However, more energy should be invested for the inner beauty than the outer beauty. Her beauty treatment should be time spent with her Lord.

3. Has a submissive spirit

1 Peter 3:5
For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves, by submitting to their own husbands

No, guys, you are not to command submission from your girlfriend. She is not your wife yet. Even so, husbands are not to command submission from the wives. The command comes from God. And a wife will submit to her husband, not because the husband says so, but out of her submission to God’s Word.

You can see submissive spirit in a girl through the way she speaks to her parents, how she addresses them, how she talks about them. How she humbly admits her sin when rebuked by the Word of God. You can also see in the way she speaks to her church leaders and the elderly. If she doesn’t have that submissive heart, chances are she will defy any human authorities in her life, including her future husband.

4. Has a servant heart

Genesis 24:15-20
Before he had finished speaking, behold, Rebekah, who was born to Bethuel the son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, came out with her water jar on her shoulder. The young woman was very attractive in appearance, a maiden whom no man had known. She went down to the spring and filled her jar and came up. Then the servant ran to meet her and said, “Please give me a little water to drink from your jar.” She said, “Drink, my lord.” And she quickly let down her jar upon her hand and gave him a drink. When she had finished giving him a drink, she said, “I will draw water for your camels also, until they have finished drinking.” So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough and ran again to the well to draw water, and she drew for all his camels.

Rebekah, a very attractive maiden, was found working hard drawing water for her family.
And when she met a stranger, she even offered to draw water for him and his camels! One large, thirsty camel can drink up to 200 litres of water! And she drew for ALL his camels!
Rebekah wasn’t busy doing her hair nor worrying about her fingernails or the callous on her feet. No, she was busy serving her family and doing good to others!

Does the girl of your dream serve her family and others around her? Is she putting others first? Or does she want others to put her first?
Is she compassionate to those who are in need? Or is she indifferent and selfish, care about nothing but her own comfort and beauty?

5. Willing to work hard and build a home

Proverbs 14:1
The wisest of women builds her house,
but folly with her own hands tears it down.

It doesn’t mean that she needs to have a job in order to do this. Even in her young age, as a teenager or as a high school or university student, does she use her time well? In her working life, does she still put God first and still have time to serve others?
How does she see homemaking – chore or act of service? Does she see the home as a mission field to reach out to the lost? Is she hospitable?

6. Share God’s vision of making disciples and raising godly offspring

Malachi 2:15
Did he not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union? And what was the one God seeking? Godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and let none of you be faithless to the wife of your youth.

Matthew 28:18-20
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

What is her view of children? Nuisance? Burden? Or God’s blessing?
How diligent is she in sowing the seed of God’s Word to the little ones (nieces, nephews, younger siblings, cousins, kids at church, etc)?
Does she seek godly advice from godly, older people? Do younger girls come to her for wise and godly advise also?
Does she take time to learn God’s Word and rigorously apply what she learns?

Again, this list is just a guide. It is by no means comprehensive. But it is a great place to start. However, I must point out that it does not mean that a girl must possess all the above criteria before she is fit to be pursued. Again, we are not shooting for perfection. Perhaps, it’s good to see whether a girl’s life shows that she is growing toward becoming a godly woman as the Bible pictures.

Girls, make sure you invest your time and energy in something that counts for eternity. Guys, make sure you invest your time and energy to grow as godly men too so you are also attractive to godly girls around you. Regardless, I hope this list will encourage you to agree with God’s Word and to focus your life on building God’s kingdom, be it married or single.
